Human Trafficking Bust: 71 Victims Rescued in Katsina Operation

Authorities in Katsina State have successfully rescued 71 individuals from an attempted human trafficking operation intended to send them into forced labor abroad.

The operation was led by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor of Katsina State on the Fight Against Drug Abuse and Human Trafficking, under the leadership of Hon. Shehu Abdu Daura, in collaboration with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Katsina State branch, headed by Musa Aliyu Hadeja.

The rescued victims hail from 19 states across Nigeria, including Edo (13 people), Ondo (9 people), Lagos (5 people), Ogun (5 people), Oyo (5 people), Osun (5 people), Delta (4 people), Anambra (3 people), Enugu (1 person), Ebonyi (2 people), Akwa Ibom (3 people), Cross River (1 person), Ekiti (3 people), Rivers (1 person), Kogi (3 people), Kwara (2 people), Benue (3 people), and Plateau (1 person).

Among those rescued were 44 women and 27 men, ranging in age from 17 to 44 years old, with one being just 12 years old.

The rescue operation was initiated following a tip-off about plans to traffic the victims through the Maiadua border in Katsina State. The authorities have been working tirelessly, day and night, to put an end to this heinous crime of human trafficking within the state.

Following the rescue on the evening of Saturday, August 10, 2024, Hon. Shehu Abdu Daura met with the victims and promised that all those involved in the trafficking attempt would be brought to justice.
